How can they be this clueless?

I'm sure by now you have heard about Fashion chain Zara pulls swastika bag. It's pretty amazing that the company didn't even do any research before the bag was distributed all over Europe and North America. How did the person who said "hey let's put the swastika symbol on the bag" get past the design approval?!

I think sometimes the swastika can mean other things. From Wikipedia: "The swastika is common as a design motif in current Hindu architecture and Indian artwork as well as in ancient Western architecture, frequently appearing in mosaics, friezes, and other works across the ancient world." It was still a horrible decision and you are right that someone should have caught that and done something about it.

Yep Beans, you did research. Hilter stole the swastika symbol (actually the original buddhist symbol goes the other way). But people in Europe and the West in general have come to associate it with fascism.
